Mexican Alligator Lizard Route

Barbie Rattlesnake Route

The Perote Valley does not offer a unique diversity of rattlesnakes, five species we can photograph (Crotalus scutulatus, Crotalus ravus, Crotalus molosus, Crotalus triseriatus, Crotalus intermedius), as well as a variety of salamanders endemic to the surrounding mountains (Pseudoeurycea melanomolga, Isthmura naucampatepetl), we recommend two days to take day and night tours, where we will also observe many species of lizards (Sceloporus spinosus, Sceloporus megalepidurus, Sceloporus mucronatus, Sceloporus Horridus, Phrynosoma orbiculare).

Salamander Mountain Route

The mountains of the Sierra de Zongolica offer us a varied option of humid forests, where we can search for the greatest diversity of salamanders in Mexico. Tehuacán Valley Route

The Tehuacan Valley is a unique biosphere reserve, composed of desert vegetation with many cacti, it is home to a large number of reptiles endemic to Mexico, here we can find the Horned Viper (Mixcoatlus melanurus), the Horned Lizard (Phrynosoma taurus), the blue lizard (Sceloporus aureolus), Alligator lizard (Gerrhonotus liocephalus) and several species of rattlesnakes (Crotalus molosus, Crotalus ravus, Crotalus intermedius). We recommend more than two days so you can enjoy the great diversity of species to photograph.

Sierra Mazateca Route

The Land of Maria Sabina, mother of the Hallucinogen Mushrooms, is home to a large number of amphibians and reptiles endemic to the cloud forest. You can photograph the mountain nauyaca (Cerrophidion petlalcalensis), green lizard (Sceloporus salvini), forest snake (Cryophis hallbergi), and horned snake (Ophryacus undulatus). We recommend three days for the expedition. It is a remote place in the mountains with basic accommodation and an internet signal.

Glass Frog Route

Horned Viper Route

The Horned Viper (Ophryacus undulatus) lives in the Zongolica Cloud Forests, we can do night driving to find it or climb a mountain to appreciate the Jumping Viper (Mitlalpicoatlus nummifer) and the rare mountain Nauyaca (Cerrophidion petlalcalensis), we can also observe colorful lizards such as Sceloporus formosus, Sceloporus aureolus, Sceloporus salvini and Anolis schiedii. We can also observe very colorful salamanders and frogs; It is very close to Finca Santa Martha Ecosuites so you will have all the comfort of an equipped cabin and high-speed internet, two nights will be necessary to find this beautiful Horned Viper.

Zongolican Alligator Lizard Route

Zongolican Alligator Lizard (Abronia zongolica) is a recently described and micro-endemic species of Veracruz, it lives only on the top of three mountains. On this tour you will visit an oak forest with a high density of bromeliads where with a lot of patience we will be able to see this species; We can also observe rock lizards (Xenosaurus grandis, Sceloporus formosus, Sceloporus aureolus); One day will be enough to search for it and you can stay in the comfortable cabins of Finca Santa Martha Ecosuites.
